Post and Utilize a Physician Panel
It is good practice to provide a panel of physicians for all employees in the event that a work-related injury occurs and treatment is needed. Your workers’ compensation carrier maintains a network of physicians who agree to contract pricing. More importantly, these physicians understand the workers’ compensation process and will work with the employee, employer and carrier to return the employee to work when the time is right.
In Pennsylvania, the employer has the right to direct care for the first 90 days of the claim if the employee signs the Employee Acknowledgement Form at the time of hire and time of injury. This form explains the employee’s duties and rights and acknowledges that they have reviewed the panel and understand that they must treat within the panel for the first 90 days. It is important that the employee signs the form twice; time of hire and time of injury. Otherwise, you will not be able to direct care of the employee.
